Sinuatus

Leven schept nieuwe vormen aldoor,

Slaat nieuwe wegen telkens in,

baant ze daar, waar ze ontbreken.

Eén drang, één kracht zet in alles

zich door,

daarom heeft alle geschieden zin

en is alle gebeuren een teken.

Henriette Roland Holst-van der Schalk 1949

Artistry By Arlette

Arlette’s art is sensitive, touching in an unexpected way. When you stand before a sculpture, take a moment of silence, sit with it for a while, and ask yourself the questions that arise:

What does this being express? What is going on within it? What does it need? Where do I experience this within myself? What do I feel? Then, perhaps, you will find unexpected answers in the deepest corners of your soul.

Maybe even days later, in a sudden moment, at night, there is coming up a feeling just because you have looked at this sculpture. That’s the depth she is working with. The hands of this artist know what they are doing, even before Arlette understands the why, what, or where. Her hands, deeply connected to her inner source, will tell.

‘So your eyes touch, and your hands see’

And that, you can feel—whether in a pure or impure way.

A small anecdote:

When her tutor, ones observing with great attention one of her sculptures you can find in the website, called: “My sweet little baby”, he asked her a question she will never forget:
‘What does this sculpture need? What is its next movement?’
And perhaps you would give the same answer she did:
‘Well, ehm, I think it needs comfort.’

to wich he immediately said: No, What it needs is to already be comforted.

I think you can sense how profound this small difference is.
This is the underlying spirit from which her creations emerge.
